Wolfgang & Rose Art is made up of Australian artist Rose Miller and her poodle “muse” Wolfgang.
Rose is the artist behind the name, the largely self taught painter has been painting for over 15 years, exhibiting within Australia and France. Her background prior to fine art was in fashion design. Having enjoying the experience of these careers she turned to painting as a way to be more hands on with her artistic talents and to find limitless freedom of creativity.
She has been represented and exhibited in highly regarded solo and curated exhibitions in both commercial and public art galleries within Australia. Having lived 8 years in the South of France and Paris, Rose spent much time in the major galleries studying the classical styles of the master painters she dearly admires. Having learned these classical painting techniques, Rose uses the traditional method of painting in many layers of oil paint and glazes to create her slick and detailed paintings. “My aim is not to create true realism, it’s not perfection that I want, it is personality I wish to shine through the canvas.”
Inspired by iconic design and fashion moments of the past and present, her paintings have a timeless look that gives a nod to nostalgia but with a fresh contemporary edge. From Art Deco Charm to Mid Century Design, Rose’s aim is to create updated versions of these iconic ideals into post modern versions of visual beauty and design, all within the medium of oil paint.
Without any hint of pretension, the female subjects in her works are immaculate yet approachable, they eschew a proud confidence and charm. Each character has been carefully designed and painted to create a personality that is both unique yet can connect to a vast audience. Rose considers herself as a colourist in which she says that taking chances with colour and design combinations, is paramount within her work.
Rose and her poodle muse Wolfgang create art in their little but charming painting studio in Sydney Australia.
